The present work is an endeavour to unravel the ancient ethnographic history of U.P. Himalaya including the adjoining part of Himachal Pradesh. More than a dozen ancient communities who played an important role in the formation of history and culture of this part of Himalaya have been studied thoroughly in this work.
The work presents a comprehensive study of the ancient communities touching their history in all dimensions including socio-economic, politico-cultural and religious traits and aspects of the ancient people of the area. Dr. Dinesh Prasad Saklani is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology. H.N. Bahuguna Garhwal University, Srinagar Garhwal, U.P. After a brilliant academic career, the thrust of his research activities has been in the area of ethnography and ancient history of U.P. Himalaya. He has published half a dozen of research papers in reputed journals. He has been actively associated with the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla from 1994 to 1997. He is also the author of a book entitled Ancient and Medieval Cities-Sites of India.
