 About the book...

Conservation of plants and animals is one of the major challenges facing manking today. The twenty-first century is going to be the age of conservation if the human race is to survive on the mother earth. Biosphere reserves are the protected areas of representative terrestrial, coastal and marine environments for conserving the diversity of plant and animal species alongwith the habitat in which they live.
Biosphere reserves of India are a part of the international network of such reserves. At present there are 14 biosphere reserves in the country covering 10 out of the 12 major biogeographic realms. This book provides an account of all these biosphere reserves dealing with physiography, flora, fauna, landuse, management units, and conservation. This book is intended for use by naturalists, environmentalists, foresters, wildlifers, geographers, plannes, administrators and laymen.
