of Related Interest... |
This
work has broadly two objectives: (1) to elucidate
the concept of action and other related concepts,
and (2) to defend a causal theory of action. It offers
an analysis of the concept of action by highlighting
a number of contrasts which give rise to different
understandings of action-concepts. It is argued that
"What is an action?" is a context-specific
question in several ways. Theories of action, offered
as alternatives, are often answers to different questions
and therefore are not irreconcilable rivals but are
rather complementaries.
The book will be useful to students and scholars working
particularly in philosophy of action, philosophy of
mind, and in the broad area of analytic philosophy.
It will be of interest to persons dealing with conceptual
and theoretical issues in social sciences.

"The
author has demonstrated extensive and careful knowledge
of the literature on Action Theory, and remarkable
ability to analyse the issues as well as literature.
It is well written, combining lucidity and analytical
style."
-- Professor J.N. Mohanty, Temple University, U.S.A.
"A superb work on the philosophy of action.....This
is the work of a matured philosopher and deserves
wide readership."
-- Professor Suresh Chandra, University of Hyderabad
"The work shows convincing signs of original
and intelligent analysis, critical power and impressive
command over the relevant literature. This can fairly
be rated as a standard example of rational discourse."
