Himalaya
is one of the most fascinating and unique creations
of the nature. It stands extended from north-west
to north-east for a stretch of 2400 kms. Its snow-clad
peaks, serene environment and natural beauty have
attracted people from the world over. The portion
of U.P. Himalaya is situated in the northern part
of Uttar Pradesh. It is endowed with innumerable shrines,
temples and tourist centres which have attracted the
Pilgrims and tourists in large numbers.
This book attempts to study various features of all
the resorts and resort complexes of U.P. Himalaya
i.e.. ancient, medieval, British period and post-independence
period, in a larger geographical framework. It discusses
physiography; climate and vegetational characteristics;
origin and growth of hillresorts; distributional pattern;
morphological characteristics; demographic characteristics;
functional classification; civil amenities; and problems
and planning of all the resort complexes of U.P. Himalaya.
