In This age of Science it is hard to believe that
there are places and people on this earth who remain
cut-off from rest of the world for 6 to 8 months in
year. Lahoul is one such valley in the midst of high
ranges and peaks of the Himalayas. The mountain
peaks surrounding Lahoul are the mountaineers dream
and delight. Lahoul Valley, situated in remote
Himachal Pradesh, With its grandeur of mountains,
Serenity of its land and the tranquility of its
massive glaciers pouring milky white water through
the mountain ranges has fascinated the people since
ages. The beauty of this valley is entirely
different from those of other parts of Himachal
Pradesh. Each sub-valley of this area has a
different background, culture and dialect, which
arouses curiosity. It is a mysterious valley as far
as its history, Culture and religion are concerned.
This tiny valley has six different dialects. The
People of one section of the valley do not
understand the dialects of their immediate
neighbours. They do not know their own roots, the
background and the history behind this diversity in
such a tiny place. Why the songs in this valley are
not in their own dialects? Why people accept more
than one religion at the same time? There are so
many fascinating myths and stories in Lahoul. The
aothor, a native of the valley, has painstakingly
done a deep study of its history, culture, religion
languages festivals and folklores and its
mythological stories, and has uncovered the
mysteries of their diversities. This book is a first
hand account of the overall picture of this
beautiful valley surrounded by lofty snow-capped
mountain ranges of the western Himalaya. The book
also presents a solid base for those interested in
Further research in this area.
