 About the book...

This book includes information on institutes and organizations which are atrengthening the research and academic capacity in the state of Himachal Pradesh. A brief account of each institute has been presented including the historical background, mandate & objectives, thematic areas of research, main activies and achievements. The institutes have been clubbed theme-wise. These themes are Academic institutes; Environment Research institutes; Agriculture & Horticulture Institutes; Forestry institutes; Buological Sciences institutes and departments; Industrial Development institutions; and Human Resource Development institutions. In the introductory Chapter, a brief introduction has been given for each theme along with a brief outline of the institutes falling under these themes. The book has been organized in eight themes.

Awareness, information and Knowledge are capable of bringing out extraordinary performance out of ordinary people. This compilation is an encyclopedia of information on research and capacity-bulding institutes in Himachal Pradesh.  About the author...

Pankaj Gupta is Working as a senior project associate in the Institute of Integrated Himalayan Studies, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. He has been actively involved in a project on compilation of annotated bibliography of Himachal Pradesh, and in a project on "Development in the Himalayan Villages: An Integrated Study". For the latter he has done a detailed analysis of village Shakrori in Shimla district to see the impact of change in culture, agriculture and biodiversity and also to see the impact of proximity with a hydro-electric project.

Professor Yoginder Verma (Director, Academic Staff College, H.P. University, Shimla) holds MBA and Ph.D degrees and is a Professor in the Institute of Management Studies, Himachal Pradesh University. Dr. Verma has previously contributed in the establishment of the Institute of Management in Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu and has also provided consultancy to Nepal Airways and Central School at Kathmandu. He has been the Director of the Academic Staff College in H.P. University since 1989. Dr. Verma has written ten books and 100 articles/papers published in national and international journals. His areas of interest are Strategic Management, HRD, Organizational Development, Management of Change, Educational Management, Training & Development, Teaching Effectively and Team Building. Dr. Verma has guided ten Ph.D. Student and about two dozen M.Phil students.

Dr. Minocha Richa has obtained her doctoral degree from the Centre for the Study of Regional Development in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She has worked on various projects like community participation in natural resource management, impact of violence on women's health, public-private partnership in education etc. She is currently working for the institute of Integrated Himalayan Studies as Lecturer in Social Sciences. She is actively involved in a project on Village Studies, and another on Engendering Development.
