The Agamas reflect a mature phase of Siva-Sakti worship, which was later on to from the basis of tantrism, being characteristically shared both by tantric Buddhism and Kashmir Saivism, the two receiving their material support from the landed aristocracy and in return contributing to their growth and subsequent decline. This book examines not only the philosophy behind the doctrines of Saivagamas, a well organised body of thought with its own logic and rational but also investigates the most valuable data on the socio-economic ideas and institutions as linked with religious thought.
