 About the book...

Shimla, former summer capital of the British Raj, occupies a unique place in the histiry of the Indian Sub-continent. It occupied the centre-stage during the hey day of the British Empire directly affecting millions of people in the sub-continent and directing the course of history. It was the site of historic and momentous decisions taken during the freedom struggle which ultimately led to the partition of the country and its independence. Despite the historic importance of the town, one does not find any comprehensive account of the events which occurred during the last two centuries. Western travellers and residents have left detailed accounts of the life at Shimla till the beginning of the 20th century, but no such account by any Indian is available. not only the visitors and tourists to the town remain unaware of the younger generation is also ignorant of its history. This book therefore would fulfill a long-felt need in providing a chronological account of the events that took place in Shimla during the british Raj and after independence.
