Mahendra
P. Lama, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the South
Asian Studies Division of School of International Studies
in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. A development
economist by training, Dr.Lama has written/edited a
number of books and research articles in various national
and international journals. He was a member of the Indian
Team of Experts which prepared the India Report on the
SAARC Studies on Trade, Manufactures and Services.
In 1989 he was invited to draft the First Plan
of the newly set up Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council by
its Chairman. In 1992 he initiated a major evaluation
Report on the Performance of Development Planning
in Sikkim under the invitation of the Chief Minister.
He has also been the Resident Editor of Himalaya
Today, a quarterly journal, since its very inception
in 1988.
