This book is an attempt to present a synthesised form of studies on Kumaun Himalaya. This region till very recently has remained neglected in the sphere of development. Yhe articles in this volume are generally analytical and empirical in nature and have dealt with different aspects of Kumauni society. These articles have tried to provide full-length, data-based account ofthe geographical. socio-cultural, political, economic, psychological , behavioural and otherrelated facets of kumaun and highlight the need to undertake area specific developmental works for this region. Researches conducted in different disciplines on diverse themes are included in the work to describe patterns and derive specific generalistions.

Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma has been teaching Political Science to Undergraduate and Postgraduate classes for the last twelve years. He has published four books and more than five dozen research papers and articles in different jurnals, magazines and newspapers. Dr. Dharma is actively engaged in conducting and guiding research on rural Kumaun. Dr. Naveen Chandra Dhoundiyal is reader in the faculty of Education, Kumaun University, Almora Campus, Almora. He has to his credit more than half a dozen books and a significant number of research papers contributed to various volumes and journals. Dr. Dhoundiyal is know as an expert of research methodology.
