Though much has been saud and talked about Himalayan Tourism in the governmental as well as academic circles through public announcements and tourism conferences, and many mountaineering expeditions have been reported in mountaineering journals and books, but not a single attempt has been made for the systematic study of economics of Himalayan Tourism and its impact on the ecology (the most prospective industry of tommorrow, which is haphazardly growing in the Indian Himalayas). This book is the first ever attempt in this direction. The book highlights the Himalayan Tourism resource potentials of Uttarkashi and Chamoli districts of Garhwal Himalaya, Which is widely known as "The Above of Gods". Existing infrastructure of this industry in this region has been studied in detail. Economics of mountaineering and trekking has been dealt in a separate chapter, with detailed case study of Gangotri region which is pilgrim's paradise and adventure tourisys retreat. Problems of this industry are put forth. Prospective dangers, to man and nature of haphazard tourism development have been exposed and some positive recommendations have been made for the sustainable development of man and nature in the Himalayas. Its is hoped that the book will prove useful to the tourists, Himalayan tourism researchers, planners, and policy-makers.
