Tourism
has emerged to be a revolutionalizing phenomenon,
outspacing the manufacturing and extractive industries
as a catalyst of the development process. In certain
economies, it is the foundation of the environ (economic,
socio-cultural and even human), while in most others
it is contributing to a significant extent in the
general development process. At the same time, the
operation of the tourism industry is not as simplistic
as the term might seem to connote. It is, rather,
a complex of various inter-linked and inter-acting
issues, problems and challenges.
It is this feature of tourism that forms the core
or basic theme of the present study and the connecting
thread of the sub-themes covered in various chapters.
The analysis presented in the book is a synthesis
of theory and practice.
